Floral DIY & THRIFT SET

Since we are at the tail end of summer, I figured I should go ahead and share some of my summer projects. This outfit was one of the first summer projects I completed, but I never felt up to taking pictures whenever I wore it.  So let's talk about this thrifted/DIY look.

I made the short using a chambray fabric leftover from a previous project.  It was made using View C of Simplicity 8389, and I cut the size 10. I removed the front pleats because I am not a fan of that style on my pants or shorts. I also made my standard crotch adjustments for my derrière. I did not like the shorts initially, and it took me a while to figure out why. It dawned on me that it was the length, so I shortened the hem by an additional inch. Although I didn't have a lot of trouble with this pattern, I don't know if I would make it again. The tie straps are cute, but I am not a fan of sewing things that aren't functional. What I liked about this is the elasticized and semi-flat front waistband.

I found the chambray button-up in a thrift shop a year or two ago. I knew that I wanted to add a pocket because the previous owner had removed it and put a patch in that area. I added piping to give it a pop of color and to match the embroidery thread color. The hardest part of this project was selecting my embroidery design. I was all over the place creatively for a couple of days, and I actually purchased another design before I fell in love with this one.  The embroidery design is Dainty Flourishes Spray from emblibrary.com. The design has a high stitch count, so I spent a long time watching my embroidery unit work, but it was worth it.  I don't do upcycle projects often, but when I do, I enjoy it.

I paired the outfit with my basic white crop tank and sneakers from Amazon.
