Simplicity 8609: Crop Top
Have you heard about the #whole30fabricchallenge hosted by Jacinta (Instagram: pinkmimosabyjacinta )? It's a challenge where participants commit to sewing 30 yards of fabric in their stash before buying new fabric. If you buy any new fabric you have to start the 30-yard count over. I decided to participate because a fabric diet is exactly what my sewing room needs at the moment. The first two yards cleared from my stash was the tribal print fabric. I used it to make a dress (here) and this tank top. I'm currently finishing 2 projects and that along with the red and floral tank pictured in this post will account for another 4 yards in my stash.
I used Simplicity 8609, View B to make both tops. I cut the size 12. The first time I made it (tribal print version), I quickly realized that I would not be hemming the top due to the bodice length at the front. Fortunately, I cut the pieces using a rotary cutter so my raw edges were very clean. I made a full bust adjustment before making the second top (floral print version) and hemmed it. I'm still not satisfied with the length and I'm going to lengthen it if I make it again. I really like the criss-cross detail at the front and I think this would be a great pattern to create a cute activewear top.
The tribal print top is paired with flare jeans from free people. The floral print top is paired with double brushed knit leggings and steve madden sneakers.
