Geometric Wrap Top: New Look 6620
OMG everyone, Simplicity's New Look summer patterns are great this year! I am so happy I grabbed the ones I purchases two weeks ago because they have disappeared at my local JoAnn and they are backorder at the moment on Simplicity's website. I picked up New Look 6620 because I hope to add more tops to my summer wardrobe and all of the views for this pattern look great.
I made view C and cut the XS, but graded to an S in the bust. For fabric, I used a geometric print knit that I found at Walmart for $2 a yard (if your Walmart sells fabric, browse the area occasionally, you never know what you'll see). View C is only three pieces, and the neck and armhole are finished with bias tape. It took me about 3 1/2 hours to make this top. Seriously I started at 11:30 am and finished up around 2:30 pm. I made one modification; I increased the rise on both back pieces because I wanted to be sure that my bra band would not show.
The armscye fit a little to snug for my taste, so I know with future makes that I will need to increase the depth in that area. I also intend to lengthen the hem by an inch, because I prefer for my hem to cover my waistband completely. When I am wearing jeans, I prefer that the belt loops are completely covered. Other than those slight changes this pattern is fantastic as is straight out the package. I paired the top with my forever favorite Levi Jeans and my Steve Madden Joni Espadrilles and BBoxy Crossbody Bag (both purchased at DSW).
