Animal Print Bodysuit: McCall's 7983
Nothing helps you churn out projects, like being told by the CDC to stay at home unless leaving the house is a necessity. Since I am working from home, I am churning out new garments at my regular pace. I will say that I am grateful for my little (it's nowhere near little) fabric stash at the moment. This bodysuit comes from McCall's 7983. McCall's 7983 also includes two lined skirt options. The fabric is a Jacquard textured knit that I purchased from JoAnn last fall. It's 5% spandex and has excellent stretch and recovery.
I cut the size 12 and made three modifications to achieve my fit. First, I did not cut the back piece on the fold as instructed. Instead, I cut two back pieces and curved the center back slightly near the waistline to add shape. I also lengthen the front and back bodice at the waistline by one inch. I have to make this adjustment for most bodysuits to account for the derriere. Lastly, I modified the leg opening, so I could finish the leg opening with stretch lace, precisely as it was finished on my black and white bodysuit (click here for more details).
This bodysuit is another excellent work staple piece because the design is simple and chic, so I can layer it under a blazer for work and then pair it with a cardigan for after-hours cocktails. It was also a relatively quick sew for me. I cut and sewed it in about 4 hours. I hope to make a few more versions of this for warmer weather, so I intend to change the high neckline to a scoop neckline. I hope that this fashion distraction brings you joy as we all settle into this social distance life. Until next time creative people!
