Sew Reversible: New Look 6216

New Look 6216 is the pattern that keeps on giving. I used this pattern last year to make a beautiful burnt orange and gray floral print top for Katie Kortman's #sewhappycolor Instagram challenge (don't know what I'm talking about, click the hashtag). I wear that shirt all the time, so using N6216 again was a no brainer. Plus, I've been itching to add another reversible garment to my wardrobe, and this pattern is excellent for that because of its simplicity. As if making it reversible wasn't enough, I decided to play with my Cricut infusible ink and add text to my shirt.

Now let me lead by saying that Cricut recommends you use official Cricut products when using the infusible ink. Since Cricut doesn't sell fabric by the yard, I opted to try the infusible ink on Liverpool knit from LAfinch because the material's content is similar to the Cricut infusible ink t-shirt content. I also did a test run on a square of fabric before trying it on my top. As for the construction of the garment, it's pretty straight forward. I added 3/8" to the neckline, 1/2" to the hem of the sleeve, and 1/2" to the hem of the black top only. I sewed the black and white top as two separate tops first. I then attached the two together by placing the black top inside the white top right sides facing and stitched around the neckline using a 3/8" seam allowance. After I turned the top wrong side together (so it looks like one top), I hemmed the sleeve and bottom of the top as two separate tops instead of sewing it together in that area. The black piece hangs slightly longer than the white, which I love because it creates a subtle border effect when worn on the white side. If you are interested in seeing what the entire process looked like be sure to click the “Behind the Seams” button.

So there you have it—yet another reversible garment under my belt. My trip may not happen next month, but when I do start back traveling, I'll be ready. Have you sewn anything reversible? If so, tell me about it!
