Twist Front Dress: McCall's 7429
It's been a while since I cut into a new pattern for myself, but I figured it was time. By my last count, I have 112 uncut patterns in my sewing room (wowzer). A couple of years ago I did a pattern giveaway and I'm thinking it's time to do another one. But let's talk about the pattern I did cut.
This is McCall's 7429, a twist front dress and the pattern has two length, collar, and sleeve options. The front twist is a classic design and I love this style, which is why I grabbed the pattern when it was released. I used a stretch rayon jersey from mood fabric (item #325502). I cut a size 10 for the bodice and a 12 for the bottom. For the back dress piece, I graded from a 10 to 12 at the hip. I made View A dress, but I used View B neckband. I like this dress because the material and style make it perfect spring as well, which means I will get to wear it several times over the next few months.
The instructions are great until you get to the steps for the front twist. Luckily, Brittany J Jones has a video tutorial that walks you through the entire process, and I encourage you to watch it if you plan on making this dress. The only other thing I did not like was the narrow hem finish for the armhole, if I make this again I will use a different finishing method. All in all, I am glad I finally made this dress, the fit is perfect and the design is simple and chic.
