Italian Red Lipstick Coat: Butterick 6244

Well, I finally made a coat, it's Mississippi weather-appropriate, and I used fabric that I purchased in 2019. Shall we say ding ding ding?

I used a double-faced wool from Mood Fabrics. The fabric is medium weight but soft, and it also has stretch. Of course, when I got it three years ago, I planned to use it for a different pattern, a cape to be exact. I decided on Butterick 6244 because of the simple design. I knew from the many reviews that the flat fell seams would be the most time-consuming. I flat-felled all seams except the neckline, I finished it with the serger. I also added twill tape along that seam and the shoulder seam to prevent stretching in that area. I did the project in a four-day period working on it for about an hour to two hours each day.

Based on the pattern envelope suggestion, I should have cut the size 16, but we all know that the Big 4 patterns sizing is a little off, so I cut the 12 instead. I only made one adjustment, shortening it by a half-inch. If I make it again, I will shorten it another inch. Also, I didn't do this intentionally, but the back piece has a center seam because I completely overlooked the "cut on the fold" instructions. The real star of this review is the ban rol purchased to finish the hems. I can't say it enough, ban rol is magical, and my narrow hem game has forever been changed.

I am thrilled to add this coat to my wardrobe, and I hope that we'll have a few more cold days so I can wear it without getting the side-eye or sweating out my edges.
