Simplicity 8429: Textured B&W Knit Top
In July, while shopping for new sewing machine needles, this knit fabric caught my eye because 1. it was on sale and 2. it was a black and white print. There were three and a half yards left, so I purchased the bolt to sew a cute matching set. However, after Miss J (my niece) and Jenell (my partner in craft) saw the fabric, they both wanted a new garment from the material. I had my heart set on sewing a set, and I told them I would check with another location to see if they had the fabric in stock. Fortunately, the other location did have the fabric, and I bought the last two yards at that location for their garments. I made my set and Miss J’s top, and Jenell made another Luna tank for herself. Of course, that means we have a second “Three Piece” look for the year. Dare I say that this is becoming a thing?
I used View B of Simplicity 8429 to create my niece’s top. View B is part of a coordinated pattern set that includes a jegging, skirt, and bomber jacket pattern. I haven’t sewn any of the other views, but I hope to use this pattern to make her a bomber jacket. The top is simple in design but has a few features that would allow you to do different fabric combinations to create a multi-color top. It also features a cute keyhole at the back, which is secured with a button closure. I cut the size 3, but the pattern design is lacking in length in my opinion, so I lengthened it to the size 5 hemline. All in all, it was a pretty quick sew and I can see myself sewing this pattern again, especially for scrap busting.
