Holiday Loungewear: Simplicity 1504
Happy Holidays to you all who celebrate. This post will be a quick one because I still have to finish gift wrapping. This year, I decided after many days of deliberation to make sleepwear. Since I usually get hot when I sleep, it's not likely that I'll be wearing this to bed, but it is perfect for lounging around the house after work.
I used Simplicity 1504 to make this shirt, and I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the design. The piping detail takes the shirt from handmade to store-bought instantly. Seriously, I wore it to a pajama party, and several people thought I purchased it.
I think that the instructions and illustrations are excellent. I rarely feel this way about big four patterns, but Simplicity put in work with this one. I really like the fact that there are several finishing techniques listed for areas such as the collar. I cut the size small. But when I tried it on, it looked like I was wearing a paper bag with sleeves. So I removed 5/8 an inch in the waist area to give it more shape, and it was perfect.
Simplicity 1504 was a pretty quick sew, but it does take some time because of the piping. I suggest that use your zipper foot when you are sewing piping so you can sew as close to the cord as possible. I embellished the pocket by embroidering my initials, and I also made a deer iron on with my Cricut to go on the left side of the front panel. I also made the under collar a contrasting color. It’s the little things! I think that this an excellent project if you are looking for a quick sew or are looking to experiment with collars. In fact, if you eliminate the piping, this could be a very stylish, lightweight jacket.
