Fall Layers: Pink & Navy Floral Dress

Fall usually means lots of layers for me, and my sewing projects generally reflect my love of layers. Sometimes my schedule can be a bit hectic, so I like to purchase or make fitted dresses that can double as a top when paired with a skirt.

I made this dress using McCall 6886. I cut the size 12, but I honestly could have cut the 10. I'm happy I went with the 12 because I decided to add an arch to the back dress piece to curve over my back. I cut two back pieces instead of one piece on the fold, but I did have to take it in at the side seam as well. I also made a vertical full bust adjustment. The fabric is a pink and navy floral ITY jersey knit I purchased about a year ago on Amazon. I like this dress, and I've already paired it with a pleated skirt I got from Target (pictured above). But, as you can see, this dress is a winner all its own, especially paired with the right shoe. For today's post, I'm wearing my navy Brodie pumps from DSW.
