An Elegant Look- McCall's 7999
I'm excited to share my latest creation with you all! This past weekend, I had the honor of attending a gala as the guest of one of the event’s honorees, and I knew I wanted to make something special for the occasion. Enter McCall's 7999 – a pattern that's been part of my pattern collection for a while now. Although I've made two dresses using this pattern before, this time, I decided to make View B, which features an ankle-length design with a chic side slit.
The fabric I chose for this project was a stunning royal purple stretch velvet. The color is rich and regal, perfect for a sophisticated event like the gala. However, I had to get a little creative with my fabric usage and made a few modifications to the original design.
First, I cut the back pieces as two separate pieces instead of on the fold. This adjustment allowed for a better fit. I went with the size large for the back bodice and medium for the front bodice. Additionally, I had to omit the sleeves due to fabric shortage. I am still doing the Whole30FabricChallenge, so I couldn't go to the store to grab more. Plus, this fabric was gifted to me years ago, so I probably would have struggled to find a match anyway. As it turns out, the sleeveless design was a good choice because I got warm after socializing and dancing.
I paired the dress with a black clutch and my new black pumps from DSW to complete my ensemble. The royal purple velvet and black accessories combined created a stunning contrast, which I loved.
I love this dress and hope to wear it once or twice more because I hate to make a garment and only wear it once. Have any of you tried McCall's 7999? I'd love to hear about your experiences and any modifications you made to the pattern!
